Chinese Bridal market

  • Strong influence of Western culture yet still ties with Chinese traditional dress and typical marriage ceremony. Red is still seen as a colour of good luck and will often be incorporated into the dress, especially now as often Brides in Modern day China often change the bridal outfit up to 3 times in one day – starting with a Western  style white gown for the civil ceremony, then for the traditional Tea ceremony, and also the reception
- the traditional one piece  Northern Chinese dress “Qi Pao” often heavily embroidered in Gold or silver , and in Southern  China or:
-a two piece dress known as “Qun Gua” usually elaborately embroidered with  golden phoenix and dragon  and finally a cocktail dress.

  • However more and more Chinese are going for a more western influenced style, often incorporating Chinese traditional themes into it, in style, material or colour and having only one or two outfits for the day like in Western culture. Western Bridal fashion weeks are followed and the most popular designer being the world famous Vera Wang as a number one prized dress for the wedding, and with often one child to have the wedding for often the best is bought - face still being a very important factor  in China. Popular styles - if not closely following the western market are often swan like elegance mirroring the traditional Chinese style dress, or swan like, big dresses often very fairy tale like, often a common trait in Vera Wang designs but more “swan like”
  • The Chinese bridal market is worth billions each year, from ready to wear to, high couture designers and made to measure.
MID TO HIGH END DESIGNERS INCLUDE
