TRAVEL: MILANO sforza castle

MILAN

In front of the Castle was a beautiful large fountain, the sky was a piercing Clear blue, a fantastic backdrop for the old symmetrical castle with central Belfry, clock and crest (along with the necessary arrow slits darted along the stronghold walls)
a carving of a saint bride the Sforza coat of arms was placed in the centre of this made of marble, to protect the family, its people and the castle itself
the main courtyard was expansive in size, the inner building was designed with huge door size arch windows set in pillar stones, the side courtyards were encompassed with high arches in keeping with the style of that eras architecture similar to the Medici villa in Florence

"The imposing town castle is located in the extension from the Milan’s cathedral - Via Dante -  Largo Cairoli - Piazza Castello.
Milan's castle was designed by Galeazzo II Visconti in 14th Century during the Renaissance period and  it was built as a defensive castle.
Throughout its history, the castle was destroyed and built up again modified. The castle houses theMuseums of the Castellowith rarities such as the last masterpiece of Michelangelo, the unfinished Pietà Rondanini and the frescoes by Leonardo da Vinci and Bramante.
Particularly impressive is the tower with the entrance Torre del Filarete, named after the Florentine architect and sculptor Antonio Averlino (called Filarete)."

before getting student discount tickets to the museum (the inside of the castle) the interior room facades were of course in better condition than those outside, many have or have already been restored/ in the process of it.
the had removed the stained glass sections of the huge arch windows and made them into panel "art pieces" put in front on the window but protected from the weather of being used as an actual window still, making some beautiful interior features. they were mainly of saints and other religious depictions, very beautiful.  just like the architecture, inside and out, from ceilings to floors.  a lot of which WOs still holding original paintwork

unfortunately for us, the Michelangelo room was undergoing restorations couldn't see anything (but I did see a little bit of a ceiling piece on my way past!)
there was a beautiful tapestry used for religious purposes, utterly huge! on display, often used for religious processions and ceremonies, they had painted onto the tapestry creating a very lifelike 3d effect, very impressive and like nothing id come across before. having finished with the downstairs we headed outside and upstairs to see more galleries  full

to meet nan (she'd got up earlyish and hit the town for some shopping) we browsed the shops got some clothes and even treated ourselves to a couple of products from lush before getting a taxi back to the hotel.

Thursdays in Italy are the best days for gnocchi, its traditionally prepared on a Wednesday to be eaten on a Thursday, so I found a place well known for its good gnocchi.
it was small, yet cosy and homey, we arrived late, around 10.320, there was only one other table of customers (though there weren't many tables anyway) the restaurant is famous for its gnocchi, its speciality, winning lots of awards, owned by Turkish Italians, they also had awards for their couscous. the owner was very friendly, recommending dishes for us and choosing once told that nan liked fish and we were veggies.

"Il Pasto Giusto Gnoccheria

of, and with us haha, he photobombed too. for dessert reb had gnocchi with apple and English custard which was surprisingly SUBLIME, literally cannot pick a favourite! the hospitality in itself was superb(id give them an award for that alone!) they even ordered us a taxi and gave us beautiful complimentary chocolate gnocchi recipe scroll

yet you are still wondering,,,why did you go out so late? you returned early,  well nan took a brain storm for us to visit lake Garda, but reb overtook that an found an option of taking the train for 3 hours and going to Venice! so, we booked (expensive as last minute of course) but tomorrow, we go to Venice
