PRE LOCKDOWN CRAZINESS
It started in Shanghai early march, some cases in Putuo district, mainly retired women 老太太 an the spread it amongst their dancing group, some grandkids got infected/were close contact so schools were tested and some students were positive.
next it was Xuhui, a quarantine hotel for china inbound guests (14days hotel QT the 7 home QT) the air conditioning wasn't working properly and cover spread to some employees, there was worry it also spread to the subway station beside it. many areas were tested and places shut with cases being found and taken to central QT - though all many asymptomatic. Then it just got crazy. they started mass testing outside, free tests and huge lines (great way to spread) schools were tested, some let the parents bring the kid to test, others shut the schools with the kids inside for 48-72hours, not letting the parents in, children were given blankets and slept at their desks with their heads down (human and scary!) they officially announced the closure of schools on the 12th, instead there would be online home schooling.
they pushed everyone to test, and the lines were getting crazier by the day, the cases rising but pretty much all were asymptomatic, yet still taken to a central QT, their buildings shut and close contacts taken too,

another fear was bing out / in work and getting locked down there.
we joked that it wouldn't be so bad if locked down in Ikea since you had. abed, but the fear was real. such as this mall in shanghai, people fleeing the mall like there was a bomb alert

If a parent or a child was positive, they took them away, separating them. Parents, Chinese and foreigners were going crazy!!! No-one would stand for it. it was terrifying. This made many foreign families leave. they weren't willing to risk this! it eventually stopped, but No-one was waiting around for it
The boss of my currently company (chilean) took his wife and 3 kids and lived in Bali instead because of it. After cover finished he would return to China once a week every month of 2 for work and meetings before he returned to Bali. When the seperating started his wife gave him an ultimatum, get us out of her somewhere safe, or I will take the kids and leave without you.....
there was a horrible video going round briefly before it got taken down by the government) or a room full of young kids, toddlers mainly, all put in cots, several kids to a bed. Sobbing for their mummies. it was heat wrenching and shocking. How could anyone separate a mother from her baby?!?! it was like something from WWII disgusting... The people became angry, quickly this was ceased and the family were quarantined together (as it should have been from the start!!!)
It was madness, all of it! I later met an India couple, they had a young son around 5, and a baby. They told me that their older son was in Pudong visiting a friend when the compound got suddenly locked down just before all of Pudong as locked. They couldn't get their son back! they were seperated from him for the whole Shanghai lockdown!! And to top it all off, just before the Puxi lockdown - the day before, the mother went into labour with the youngest and had him in the hospital. because of the covid rules she wasn't allowed to stay with him and was sent home the first night, ONLY FOR PUXI TO GO INTO LOCKDOWN THE NEXT DAY!! Separated from a newborn AND the other son!!! How nightmarish!
(thankfully both boys were fine, ahoy and deathly when I met them, but definitely traumatising for the parents!!)

Can'y go out to buy groceries, can't order in either.... so what's the plan? Starve to death rather than death by covid?

my first venture out. after 3 weeks of city lockdown. Shanghai, one of the most populated cities in the world was now a ghost town, like something from an apocalypse movie. like 28 days later but without the zombies. it was UNWORDLY and very very unsettling

Our compound in Qingpu haven’t have a case in ~40 days but after ~3days of half freedom from Monday to Wednesday we continue to be forbidden to leave the compound and they continue driving me crazy with daily PCR (and RAT) ; tomorrow Saturday again..this is really destroyed my psyche after 2 months …it is a f***g torture

Sat in front of the first possible convenience store drinking Coke when this slightly paranoid man comes and demands to see my health and the arrow codes. Told him he can call the police if he suspects anything. Walked a few hundred meters when I was stopped by the twenty-somethings on an electric bike, demanding to know where I was coming from. Walked ahead and noticed that all the eateries had only one or two tables inside, and the rest of the tables on the sidewalk, or that they were selling only takeaway from the door. Our plan was to eat in a real restaurant tonight, which we haven't done in ages. My gym was closed. When the gym closes things are about to happen. Got a WeChat message from the community saying we're not allowed to leave Xi'an. I'm wondering if all of the above is the "dynamic" part of the epidemic prevention, or if this is the "lockdown tomorrow!" part? Took a hint and went to the supermarket to stock up for a week. Also, they just announced a blackout from 11 p.m. till 6 a.m. tonight, now charging all the devices because I don't think I'll sleep very well tonight. "

"Sorry but in his situation I would do the same; imagine how traumatic would be for both small children and parents alike to be separated for weeks….i wouldn’t give a s**t about my responsibilities at work or how my CV would look like….as for myself I haven’t leave already because of need of Schengen visa …but my metal and physical health are deteriorating every day under this anxiety caused by the sensation to be in a concentration camp; today I lost my temper; the decided to put a loudspeakers beside the long queue for the PCR that loudly repeated to prepare the QR code with a pause if 1-2 seconds in between..I asked them if that was necessary and they said yes; then I loudly screamed to them telling them that we are almost 2 months doing the same f.**g routine every day and that I am becoming crazy ..I screamed them to switch it off …of course they didn’t..😡😡😡🤬🤬🤬🥵🥵🥵☠️☠️☠️"

however we got told at 5.30am this morning that we were going into at least another 2 day lockdown due to a close contact of a case in our being, we were called for testing from 5.30 - 8.30 FUN. had to cancel all my plans for at least the next 2 days. after the 2 days if we have no cases we need to do self monitoring for another 12 and avoid taking public transport or being in crowded places etc. others are 2+7 meaning 7 days of not being allowed outside their compound. they have closed several places...not looking good
