Travel: Philippines: Cebu Island

 MOALBOAL

Moalboal has 2 main areas, the inner city area with the bus stop, supermarket, banks, school and promenade, and the area were everyone stays with beaches, bars and diving. we stayed in this section, about a 7 minute walk from the beach area

from the beach you can see a small "fleet" of diving boats and glass bottom boats as its a great area for turtles and whale sharks, so a perfect place for more snorkelling. here you need to swim a bit further out before you get to the reefs and they aren't as high up.  it was a wonderful morning were we did some sunbathing and snorkelling til after noon were it started to get too hot and lunch was calling. there's lots of restaurants with a variety of dishes and drinks, seafood being their specialities of course.

later on robin went for the bus to head to Cebu city to start making his journey home. because of the virus and parts of china in lockdown he decided to not head back, but instead stay in Hong Kong on his connection flight and buy a flight to the U.K instead. whereas I claimed for a refund ticket on my trip back and decided to stay longer instead. going to Cebu then Palawan after.

the next day I went with Chnny who had rented a scooter to visit some of the nearby waterfalls. again it was hot and sunny. a great feeling in January as I had left cold Shanghai with a temperature of around 5 whereas it was around 30*

CAMBAIS FALLS

We first headed to cambais falls, we used google maps, it took us up a difficult steep path that was getting.a lot of maintenance work done so it was a slow an awkward ride up, though for the return path we went the other way which was a lot smoother as a lot of the work had already been done.

when we finally got there, there was a couple of make shift stalls made by locals, Chnny and I shared a HUGE fresh coconut. she had to put the excess coconut water in cups for us and even scoped out and sliced the coconut flesh for us

it's a short trek to the waterfall, there wasn't too many people just some locals, a level path, it did get a bit sweaty as it was very hot and humid. the water is a beautiful azure blue, its deep near the small side waterfall which people swam in,  its mainly in the shade and so it was colour here, to the point of being cold due to the lack of sun. I chilled on the rocks. Chnny, like some others climbed up the side to the main waterfall with help from some locals, going further on to the higher tier getting some great pictures. it was nice and peaceful, not noisy, the local kids playing games and have a relaxing and fun afternoon.

set in a private jungle like setting, it was worth the awkward and more difficult journey to get there, it was more special.

KAWASAN FALLS

after this on our road back we stopped at Kawasan falls, this spot is more touristy and was very busy, its a popular spot for canyoneering. it was late afternoon at this point so the wasn't much sun in the area, but it was cool watching people jump into the waterfall on their canyoneering cause, it looked really fun!

we headed back to our hostels, seeing a poster for Sunday cock fights in a nearby farm, a popular event with the locals. the next morning I chilled on the beach for a while before getting a bus to Cebu.
