无锡清明节 5th april Wuxi

We went for a local lunch ordering some dishes and they all tried the specialty 小笼包 of the region. Apparently slightly sweeter and nicer than Shanghai’s, not veggie friendly though. Raining and cold but as tradition or the saying goes 清明节要下雨 because 伤悲在哭 the ancestors are crying down from the heavens. This holiday people go to the temples to pay respects and often burn paper offerings and give food/fruit. I don’t actually know what becomes of all the fruit and food, I suggest the monks eat it? No1 had umbrellas so we stopped at a stand we Wuhan bought one and I persuaded him to get the bad ass big one styled as a ninja sword. From here we got a taxi to 灵山 lingshan to see the huge monastery and Buddha . It was around 4 by the time we got there, an expensive entrance we were cold in the wind and rain. We strolled around and entered the huge Buddha which was beautiful, we even made it back to see the beautiful musical light show but unfortunately didn’t get to see the palace section, but freezing as we were it wasn’t so devastating I guess. We got a bus together the other two getting off before us as they had work the next day. We headed to our hotel and had a cosy night in with facemasks and a movie. Hot shower of course!
