TRAVEL: Wuxi

无锡清明节 5th april Wuxi
A last minute trip and not a long one as jim had to be back for work we got the bus to Wuxi. Ben was meant to come but he’s been out on the top the night before had lately been feeling iffy and slept in. Plus, once I got internet I got an email notification informing me it was also his birthday, sly dog kept that quiet! So instead it was just jim and I. It was super wet. But then again, it’s a death holiday, they say it always rains as the ancestors are crying 上辈要哭 and unlike the other holidays you cannot wish others a happy tomb sweeping holiday 不能祝人清明节快乐. As we were now only 2, the weather was keek and the hotel pricy I suggested we just leave later that night (the fast train if there are tickets can be 30mins) but unfortunately we couldn’t refund. We headed to the main ‘temple area’ soaked searching for 误判 who was also joining us with his new girlfriend. T had been ages since I saw him last, and he was surprisingly very loved up and whipped - his girlfriend seemed a modern feisty one, just what he needed -  即使他有一个比较随意的外表他其实是一个比较浪漫的男生
We went for a local lunch ordering some dishes and they all tried the specialty 小笼包 of the region. Apparently slightly sweeter and nicer than Shanghai’s, not veggie friendly though. Raining and cold but as tradition or the saying goes 清明节要下雨 because 伤悲在哭 the ancestors are crying down from the heavens. This holiday people go to the temples to pay respects and often burn paper offerings and give food/fruit. I don’t actually know what becomes of all the fruit and food, I suggest the monks eat it?  No1 had umbrellas so we stopped at a stand we Wuhan bought one and I persuaded him to get the bad ass big one styled as a ninja sword. From here we got a taxi to 灵山 lingshan to see the huge monastery and Buddha . It was around 4 by the time we got there, an expensive entrance we were cold in the wind and rain.  We strolled around and entered the huge Buddha which was beautiful, we even made it back to see the beautiful musical light show but unfortunately didn’t get to see the palace section, but freezing as we were it wasn’t so devastating I guess. We got a bus together the other two getting off before us as they had work the next day. We headed to our hotel and had a cosy night in with facemasks and a movie. Hot shower of course!
