TRAVEL: FUZHOU FUJIAN DRAGONBOAT FESTIVAL

MONDAY 29TH 端午节
we meet early around 8 to get the metro to pudong airport for our flight to fuzhou for 11.15 a quick flight,I was annoyed to learn that you still can't use iPads/phones/laptops on internal flights (weird) upon arrival we got the city bus (line1) to the city centre (26RMB)) to our air b&b hostel (it was a dump but we didn't book it, there's a chinese app now) the owners were typical chinese men, sitting in on a hot day avoiding the sun, smoking and eating snacks, with the bellies out in the rolled up t-shirts,  it was pretty grubby and not at all tidy,  a bit like a lazy teens house/squat...  yet it could have been beautiful, high quality chinese style built in wooden furniture. both bathrooms (there was an upstairs here to) were grubby and pretty disgusting, smelly and the floor was soaked bathroom products strewn everywhere, so needless to say i decided to skip the shower.... as i could possible be all the more unclean after haha.

sitting outside with drinks, comfy and child, easily could have fallen asleep, we explored the area some more before heading back to our rooms

it was hilarious watching it rock about with them in it like ejits, Mali's doing doughnuts and jolting emergency stops haha. then Jim and I had a quick go. so weird but fun!! kept feeling like id roll back and out of it.

we then went to get supplies for camping (it was an old barely used market, the wine was dusty...) before getting a taxi to the dock 码头⛵️
even though we were there before 3 like the driver had advised us (apparently the last one to the island- he was a local) no1 in the restaurant seemed to know what we were on about on how to get to DONGJIN ISLAND, the guys at the dock said we could get a ferry to CAO ISLAND and could rent tents there to camp out in, so we took them up on the offer, 10RMB, it was a short ride over, we sat on the top deck in the sun (unlike the rest of the passengers we don't mind a bit of colour or heat) listening to music, sunbathing and chatting, in the short space of time of the ride, even with the temperature cooling, symone got a bit sunburnt (the problem of being a red head) the ferry guys had sorted everything out for us, including a lift to the people with tents, so upon landing and disembarking, we were picked up by a minivan who took us a short distance to

been drank by myself and Symone. had some baijiu (EEWWW)  as per usual it was gross....

WEDNESDAY 31ST MAY

but leaving the coastline area the sky became hazy in comparison (smog most likely), no more did we have the quiet simplistic fresh feeling of the night before on the island, the fresh countryside was behind us, annoying eh? sucks the drastic change - factories and car pollutions mainly, such a drastic change in such a short distance, the girls went ahead to get food etc while we headed back to the hostel to change and shower, before getting a bus to the main park. the journey was interesting we went up (What felt like a winding mountain)
